Consul Ayub Junus represented Republic of Latvia in the World Ocean Conference held in Manado on the 11th – 15th May 2009.
The conference was attended by Ministers and High Level Government Officials as well as High Level Officials from Multilateral Organizations to discuss current issues in the marine field which are related to climate change, and how the world can more wisely utilize the ocean to weather crises. Furthermore, WOC2009 is expected to create a more aligned global vision and commitments from participating governments and institutions to work together to improve marine resource management.

As part of the Asia-Europe Museum Network (ASEMUS) Education-Outreach and Public Programmes Project to promote co-operation and development in the education field between museum in Europe and museum in Asia, the representative of the Museum of Foreign Art Latvia had a working visit to Indonesia between 17th~28th January 2009.
The representatives who consist of Mrs. Daiga Upeniece (Director) and Mrs. Vita Ozolina (Education Manager) were able to explore the richness of Indonesia' arts and cultures by visiting museums, temples, castles and handcraft centres in Jakarta, Yogyakarta and Bali.
The working visit was quite successful with the supports of the Indonesian Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Honorary Consulate of Latvia in Jakarta.
The Asia-Europe Museum Network (ASEMUS) is maintained with the support of the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) which itself promotes mutual understanding, deeper engagement and continuing collaboration among the people of Asia and Europe through greater intellectual, cultural, and people-to-people exchanges between the two regions.

An introductory meeting with HE Mr. Peteris Vaivars (Ambassador of Latvia to Japan and Korea) was held in Bali to discuss the Latvia Honorary Consulate' activities for Jakarta.

On 3rd~4th July 2008 Consul Ayub Junus attended the 4th Meeting of the Honorary Consuls of the Republic of Latvia in Riga together with other 81 Honorary Consuls from 43 countries. In total, Latvia has 130 Honorary Consuls in various countries all over the world.
The meeting was to highlight current developments in Latvia's foreign policy with speech by H.E. Mr. Maris Riekstins, Foreign Minister and speech by H.E. Mr. Ivars Godmanis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia and concluded with reception hosted by His Excellency Mr. Valdis Zatlers, President of the Republic of Latvia and Mrs. Lilita Zatlere.
The meeting also included working visits to Valmiera and Cēsis.

Working visit of H.E. Dr. Einars Semanis (Ambassador of Latvia to Finland & the Latvian representative at the Board of ASEF Governors) from 19 to 24 April in taking part in the ASEF annual working meeting in Bali, Indonesia. The meeting was held in order to analyze the foundation's achievements over the last year and to approve new projects.
The ASEF was established on 15 February 1997 and is the only institutional instrument of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) aimed at promoting cultural, intellectual, and humanitarian contacts between Asia and Europe, by organizing conferences, seminars, and lectures.
As part of his working visit, Ambassador Dr. Einars Semanis on 21 April met with Mr. Imron Cotan, the Secretary General of the Indonesian Department of Foreign Affairs and Mr. Eddy Haryadhi, the Director General of Americas and Europe of the Indonesian Department of Foreign Affairs, in order to discuss issues of bilateral co-operation.
During his working visit to Indonesia, Ambassador Dr. Semanis visited the Latvian Honorary Consulate Offices in Jakarta (Consul Ayub Junus) and Bandung (Consul Jahja Santoso) and as well met with the Director of the Indonesian National Museum, to talk about possible co-operation with the Latvian Museum of Foreign Art under an ASEF project involving museum experts.

Consular Exequatur was issued to Mr. Ayub Junus by the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Indonesia as the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Latvia with jurisdiction of all Indonesia with the exception of West Java and Bali provinces.

Consular Commission as Honorary Consul for the Latvia Consular Post in Jakarta was granted to Mr. Ayub Junus by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia to perform duties in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations (1963).

The Attestation Commission of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia confirmed Mr Ayub Junus as the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Latvia in Jakarta, Indonesia.
