Marriage Procedure in Indonesia
Many Latvian couples purposely come for their marriage and have their local Bali excotic wedding ceremony and at the same time enjoy their honeymoon in Bali Island. Inter-nationals marriage between Latvian & Indonesian are common these days and for such planning, there are procedures for the Latvian individual(s) need to prepare before saying “I do“.
PREPARING Documents requirement
For Latvian nationals to conduct marriage in Indonesia between Latvian to Latvian and Latvian and Indonesian, the Latvian national would be required to submit the following to Indonesian Honorary Consulate Office in Jakarta:
1). Certified/ notarized copy of Birth Certificate of Latvian citizen and its translation into English by a sworn translator
2). Certified/ notarized copy of Latvian Passport
3). Certified/ notarized copy of Certificate of Non-Impediment of the Latvian national issued by the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (OCMA) of the Ministry of the Interior of Latvia or statements from the Population Register which contains information about the place of residence, marital status, passport details and other details. This document certifies the marital status the Latvian citizen and is to be translated into English by a sworn translator. GETTING Recommendation Letter
Upon submission of all documents mentioned above, the Latvian Honorary Consulate Office will issue a recommendation letter written both in English and Bahasa Indonesia (based on the original non-impediment certificate from Latvia) as required by the Indonesian Civil Registry who conducts and officiates the wedding.
RegistERING THE Marriage in Latvia
Once the marriage certificate has been issued by the Indonesian Civil Registry, it should be translated into English in case the original is only in Indonesian. This document is needed to register the marriage conducted in Indonesia to the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (OCMA) of the Ministry of the Interior of Latvia as otherwise your marriage will not be recognized in Latvia.
The marriage certificate issued by the Indonesian Civil Registry (locally named, Kantor Pencatatan Sipil or Kantor Urusan Agama) should firstly be registered and legalized at the Indonesian Ministry of Laws & Human Rights (by Legalization Dept) and then at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (by Clearance & Legalization Dept) and finally at the nearest Latvian Embassy (if you live abroad) or at Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Consular Dept) in Riga prior registering it with the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (OCMA) of the Ministry of the Interior of Latvia.
